Late Years of the Trees

 

•  * Thranduil Oropherion born in Menegroth, in the kingdom of Doriath.

FA: 502

 

• Battle of a Thousand Caves: Menegroth sacked, Elu Thingol, king of Doriath and High King of the Sindar, killed by dwarves. Dior, Elu Thingol's grandson, assumes the kingship.

FA: 506

• Second Kinslaying: The Sack of Doriath. The Sons of Fëanor attack Doriath, and kill Dior and most of his family. The kingdom falls, survivors flee to the Haven of Sirion.
• * Oropher and his house splits from the main host of survivor of Doriath, believing the line of the kings of Doriath and his friend and kinsman, Elu Thingol, to be finished.

FA: 538

• Third Kinslaying: elves and men in the Haven of Sirion set upon by the Sons of Fëanor and are slaughtered. There are few survivors. Among the small number are Elrond and Elros.
• * After hearing of the Third Kinslaying, Oropher moves his house to Greenwood the Great.

FA: 590

• END OF THE FIRST AGE. Thranduil is ~600 years old.

SA: 106

• * Oropher assumes kingship over Greenwood the Great, the remnants of Sindar that came with him, and the Nandor/Silvan. His capital is at Amon Lanc. Thranduil becomes the crown prince. He is ~700 years old.

SA: 1300~

• * Thranduil weds his wife, a Sindarin elleth named Calenmiril.

SA: 1600

• The One Ring is forged.

SA: 3429

• Gondor attacked by Sauron.

SA: 3430

• Last Alliance of Elves and Men formed.
• * Legolas born. 
• * Oropher, Thranduil, Calenmiril, and the army of the Woodland Realm leave for the War of Wrath.

SA: 3434

• Battle of Dagorlad: Oropher slain, Thranduil burned by dragonfire and becomes king of the Woodland Realm. He is ~4000 ears old.

SA: 3434-3441

• Siege of Barad-dûr. Thranduil eventually recovers from his wounds enough to lead his father's much diminished armies. Calenmiril is slain.

SA: 3441

• END OF SECOND AGE
• * Thranduil returns to Greenwood.

TA: 800-900

• Thranduil and his court leave Amon Lanc and move north to form a new capital, the Elvenking's Halls, both to escape the rising darkness and move further away from Lothlórien.

TA: 1050

• 'The Necromancer' takes up residence in the abandoned Amon Lanc.

TA: 2770

• Erebor attacked by Smaug

• Events of 'The Hobbit' begin. Thranduil is ~7000 years old.
