[ What the fuck. What the fuck??

Beleth feels five different separate forms of surprise all at once, and then again, but slowly. But confused as she is about Thranduil's reaction, his tone leaves no room for arguing--or if it did, it's not room Beleth is going to squeeze into. So, meekly:
]

Y-yes. I understand. I won't, I promise.

[ There's a pause at Thranduil's questions, then the rustling of canvas. Time to go be a sneaky scout. Or just. Stare out of her tent. ]

He's wearing...very fancy robes. They're very pretty. And he has gold threads woven into his hair. [ She wants gold threads in her hair--Wait, srs bzns time. ] No star--um. A sun? I think that's a sun.

[ She has no idea what's going on, or what these elves have done to provoke such a reaction from Thranduil, but. Thranduil has never been anything but reasonable, his opinions always with a good purpose (not that she's bias or anything). He wouldn't ask such a thing of her unless it was important. ]

I'm sorry, I haven't heard anything they have said to each other. If you want, I can try to listen in to their conversations...?

Or get one of my scouts to do it. [ That's not being alone with them, right. ]

( A bit more discreetly, Gwenaëlle dangles her own crystal from her fingertips, mouths: I know someone there, an offer of assistance made much more inaudibly than her previous yelp. )

[ Beleth, oblivious to any Gwens or other people listening in to their conversation, muses on Thranduil's instructions. Does it have to be a man specifically, she wonders, going over the list of scouts available to her. Would a human woman work? But that sounds dumb to say, so she doesn't. She'll figure it out. ]

I understand, Thranduil. I'll be careful. I--I won't let any threats hurt the Inquisition.

Or you.

[ Her voice grows a little stronger at that, and she gives a decisive nod. ]

I promise. I won't let anyone be a threat to you.

[ She offers her own huff of annoyance in return, because she can picture his current expression perfectly well, and it is not one that's taking her seriously. ]

I...suppose you're right. No--You are right, Thranduil. I'll be careful, and see what I can learn.

I hope that you can work things out with them. He...seemed nice enough. He was sympathetic, when I told him about how the elves here are...less, now. And he said I had a brave heart.

[ Beleth likes to believe she's cautious but that doesn't always stick around when people start giving her compliments and positive attention. It's almost like she has a self-esteem issue. ]

...By the way. Out of curiosity, are there any deep water monsters within Middle Earth, that you're aware of? Ones that are incomprehensibly enormous, beyond mortal reckoning, and what not.

[ Just wondering. ]

I'm sure my mother would understand that it would be my own fault--Ah. Well.

[ Polite throat clearing. ]

I didn't want to worry you. [ But attempting to distract him with news of more Middle Earth elves didn't go very well. ] There's just this...beast, that has been stopping us from being able to get off the island. We've got a plan, though! Which is coming together quite well.

It's just that--I've never even heard of anything like it before. I was hoping that you might have some knowledge of something similar. Your lore doesn't seem quite so...ah. Lost to time.

Ah...Well. Thank you anyway. For telling me, and for your confidence.

I'll see you soon, Thranduil. And I'll remember what you've told me.
